French Potato Gratin: Gratin dauphinois

Potato Gratin

This traditional French recipe is very simple and requires only a few ingredients: potatoes, whipping cream, garlic, salt and pepper. Very easy! I suggest you add some grated nutmeg for a light nutty taste. Cooked slowly and for at least 1 hour, the potatoes melt in the mouth, it is delicious!

Serves 6
Preparation time: 30 minutes
Baking time: 1 hour
Difficulty: *

Ingredients:
- 2 pounds potatoes (Yellow or Russet potatoes)
- 2 cups whipping cream
- 4 garlic cloves, crushed
- salt & pepper
- grated nutmeg

Peel and slice the potatoes very finely. If you have one, use your food processor to slice the potatoes, it will reduce the preparation time by 2!

Crush the garlic.

First, coat the bottom of a baking dish with cream. Then layer the ingredients one by one:
- one layer of potatoes
- one layer of cream
- salt and pepper
- grated nutmeg
Start over and continue until you don't have any more ingredients. Finish with a layer of cream, with salt and pepper.

Bake in the oven at 150ºC - 300ºF for at least 1 hour.
The longer you bake the potatoes, the more tender they become.

Serve with meat or poultry and a fresh salad on the side. Enjoy !
